Frog's and Owl's Rooms - 3 to 4 years approx. Ratio 1:8
At approximately three years of age, your child will move upstairs to Frog's and Owl's. It may seem like a long way off but school is on the horizon and we want to best prepare them for this next transition
The rooms, activities and equipment are planned to develop cognitive and motor skills and the skills needed at school; listening, concentration, shape, number, name recognition and general recall, important for reading and writing and early maths. We also encourage children's awareness of their daily lives and the wider world around them.
The Manse team takes a flexible, spontaneous approach to session content, ensuring that we seize "those teaching moments" when they arise without losing sight of what we're trying to achieve in the longer term. This will have a longer lasting effect on your child's development and general attitude to learning. We provide opportunities for your child to play independently, with a partner and as a member of a group. Learning to share and to understand the consequences of their actions on their friends will equip your child with the tools needed to become a self-confident, socially skilled person.
As we have close links with local schools, reception teachers from local schools can visit your child at the nursery prior to their school start, helping us to make the transition a smooth one. These visits are informal, enabling your child and their future teacher to chat and look at the books together and generally become familiar with one another. These visits are always exciting moments for the children at the Manse and are talked about long after the event.
